|                    |        We have come  along way in our treatment options for diabetes. Gone are the days of  the insulin "back pack" and pig-insulin. Since the discovery of  insulin in 1921, we have made tremendous strides in diabetes care.  From insulin pens and pumps, new oral medicines, to continuous  glucose monitors and small, compact blood glucose meters. But, what's  next? New pen devices, blood sugar detecting contact lenses, inhaled  insulin and one day, hopefully a cure. Until then, work with your  health care team to pick options that work best for you.
