We Need a New Orientation to Sex

When I was working on my most recent book for kids, Sex Is a Funny Word, some topics were easier than others to write.  People usually assume that the hardest topics to cover are things like masturbation.  For me they were gender, sexual abuse, and maybe the hardest of all was sexual orientation.  I'm coming to feel that whatever it is we gain from the idea of sexual orientation isn't worth all the things we lose by following its strict and unrealistic requirements.  It's making me wonder if we need a new orientation to sex.    ~  Cory
