Pregnant woman who don't exercise for their own health, might want to start exercising for their babies. Take a look at this new Baylor University study: the researchers selected a group of mice that enjoyed running, then split them into two groups. Half were put into cages with running wheels during their pregnancy, and half weren't. The mice with the wheels voluntarily ran more than six miles per day (decreasing to two miles per day later in pregnancy), and the offspring of the more active mice turned out to be about 50 percent more physically active than those born to the inactive mice. Similar results have been observed among humans, but it was always hard to tell if the activity during pregnancy made for naturally more active children, or if active moms simply raised their children to be more active. This experiment corrected for those variables.
