You might think ground beef is off the menu when you eat low fat, and to be honest, you should probably have it only occasionally. When you do, stick with lean and extra-lean varieties. Also this week, a delicious butternut squash and parsnip tart, plus a couple of holiday baking ideas.

 

Five Lower Fat Dishes Made With Lean Ground Beef
While ground beef is not a low fat ingredient, you can still use the lean and extra-lean variety in low-fat dishes. That way, you can still get the protein and key minerals that beef offers, but with a whole lot less saturated fat and cholesterol.

Butternut Squash and Parsnip Tart
A savory tart featuring roasted butternut squash, parsnips and shallots, which makes a delicious vegetarian main dish in fall and winter.
