From Terry Martin, your Guide to Smoking Cessation

This week, the ever-popular topic of how to live through nicotine withdrawal is highlighted, along with a great one year milestone message from forum member, Jenn (blakwolf013).  Thanks for sharing, Jenn.

Have a great week, everyone.

Tears From Heaven at One Year Smoke-Free
The road to freedom can be long and winding, but if we stick with it through the ups and downs, release does come. I'd like to introduce you to Jenn (blakwolf013), a member of the support forum here at About.com Smoking Cessation.  Jenn has given her all to the recovery process, and she truly appreciates just how precious this new smoke-free life is.

Will Nicotine Withdrawal Ever End?
Question from a reader: "I quit in January and it is now late March. I used nicotine gum which got me through the worst part of it. Just like every other time I've tried to quit smoking though, once I'm into the 3rd or 4th month, feelings of nicotine withdrawal return and are so intense that I start smoking again. Nicotine withdrawal doesn't get better, it seems to intensify! Will it ever end?"

Rationalizations for Smoking (and How to Silence Them)
When we quit smoking, our minds begin rationalizing almost immediately about why we should have waited to quit....or why we should buy a pack and start again tomorrow....or why we should have just one cigarette. This is called junkie thinking, or rationalizing smoking.

4 Steps to Defeat Urges to Smoke
Early cessation is a mine field of cravings and triggers to smoke. Navigating it successfully is a challenge for every newly quit ex-smoker.  Regardless of how much we may want to quit, those first few weeks are intense.
