Lesson 2 - Developing the Will to Quit Smoking
Terry Martin
From Terry Martin, your Guide to Smoking Cessation
Most smokers spend years wishing they could quit. Of the 26 years I smoked, I wanted to quit for at least 15 of them. People would tell me I'd quit "when I was ready". I waited to be "ready" and worried it might never happen, or when it finally did, it would be too late.

One of the most important things I've learned since quitting is that it is rare indeed for a smoker to really ever be "ready" for their quit date. Smokers are addicts, and addicts are controlled by the substance they're addicted to. If I could give you only one piece of advice, it would be to quit now. Don't wait for the stars to align and conditions to present themselves perfectly, because if you do, you'll never quit smoking.

Most smokers are shaky when they begin their quits. Solid will and determination to quit smoking is built one simple day at a time, and is bolstered by a variety of things, such as support, education and gratitude.

This week's lesson will help you find your footing and build the resolve you'll need to quit smoking successfully for good. The first section of this newsletter is geared toward giving you steps to follow that will help you train and condition yourself to change the way you think about smoking. From there, follow the links below to read about the benefits your body will begin to enjoy within the first 20 minutes of quitting tobacco.
