From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
If you're lucky enough to be visiting the beach in the last few weeks of summer (or if you want to feel like you are), try adding some ocean-themed poses to your routine. Each of the three poses below is very adaptable to suit different levels and styles of yoga asana practice.
Mermaid Yoga Pose - Pigeon Variation

Mermaid is fun to try, but if you are more of a beginner, you could also stick with pigeon. Both a great hip openers, but mermaid adds in a bit of back-bending, balancing, and binding, making it more of an intermediate pose.

Fish Pose - Matsyasana

There are also a few different ways to do fish pose, depending on what kind of practice you are going for. You can even use a block to support your backbend for a more restorative experience.

Dolphin Pose

Dolphin is a variation on downward facing dog that is a wonderful alternative for people with wrist pain. It's also a good preparation for forearm stand and can be made into a dynamic core strengthener if you opt for some dolphin push-ups.

Aqua Yoga
Alternatively, skip all of the above and head to your nearest pool for some aqua yoga. Experiment with some balancing postures to experience how water supports you differently than air.
