Sandwiches can be real fat and calorie traps, but they needn't be. We can choose healthy yet filling ingredients that will still make us look forward to lunch. Also this week, I have some healthy salad and pasta recipes to share.

Sandwiches can be fat and calorie traps, especially the deli-style ones, which seem a mile high. Build your own, healthy sandwich at home, one that's filling and nutritious with a fraction of the calories contained in store-bought sandwiches.

Low Fat Summer Salads

Not all salads are healthy, and it really says something when you are able to consume fewer calories eating a small burger and fries than a bowl of salad at some restaurants. This is largely because the salad vegetables -- often beginning with virtually nutrition-free iceberg lettuce as a base -- are drowned in fatty, creamy dressings, and are topped with fried croutons and shredded cheese.
